Hazardous substances in WEEE:

CADMIUM (Cd) - chip resistors, IR readers, semiconductors and older types of cathode-ray tubes, stabilizers in plastics - damages the kidneys when deposited in the body, may cause anemia

MERCURY (Hg) - found in lighting of flat screens, switches, fluorescent tubes, wiring in printed circuit boards – damages and has a harmful effect on the central nervous system and causes damage to basic motor skills and nerves, as well as the liver and other internal organs

BERYLLIUM (Be) - found in motherboards and connectors - carcinogenic

LEAD (Pb) - used in cathode-ray tubes of CRT televisions and also found on printed circuit boards - lead damages the kidneys, nervous and reproductive system

CHROMIUM (Cr) - hexavalent chromium is used as protection against corrosion of galvanized steel plates and connectors - damages DNA and causes asthmatic bronchitis
